Music Echoing the True Spirit of the Caribbean..More about Neil Chiddick:

Neil Chiddick was born in Trinidad.  Growing up, music was always a big part of his family lifestyle and main form of entertainment of the village and culture.  His father, Samuel Chiddick Sr. was a guitarist and calypsonian.  Neil, as early as he can remember, played African drums.  At age eleven, participated in the Shango feasts conducted by the older folds.  This ceremony was brought to Trinidad by the African slaves many many years ago, and was a very big part of our culture.  Some years later he also got involved with the "Better" Village competition where he continued to play African Drums.  This competition was island wide and very well known to attract the best cultural artists both of our music and dance.  Neil was blessed with many talents including being able to play all percussion instruments, drums, congas, and eventually began to play with steel drum bands.  In the 1970's he was a member of "Tripolians" steel band.  This band was known a a "pan around the neck" band because the players carried their instruments tied by strings to their necks.  In 1988 Neil migrated to the US by invitation from his brother Albert Chiddick.  Albert was a well known pianist in the northwest for many years.

From 1988 to the present time Neil has performed with many steel bands in the Northwest including Caribbean Super Stars, Symphony de la Steel, Flambeau and the Islanders.  Neil also participated in the Singing Christmas Tree" performances.  A well known Christmas tradition in the northwest hosted by "Life Center" music ministry for the past 32 years!  At these performances he can be called upon to play the steel drum, congas, or other percussion instruments.  Neil formed Island Jamz Steel Drum Orchestra in 2001.  He is the leader/owner/arranger of his band which is comprised mainly of his family members including his son, brother, sister, and close family friends.
